Costliest Insurance States

Michiganders pay the highest percentage of their average annual incomes for car insurance, according to data compiled by CarInsuranceQuotes.com.

All else being equal, car insurance rates differ from state-to-state according to a number of variables, including state insurance regulations, costs for car repairs and medical care, insurance fraud taking place within the state, the number of uninsured drivers on the roads and the percentage of residents living in densely populated areas.

“While you’re probably not going to move to a new state just because of car insurance costs, the most important thing to remember is that - regardless of where you live - you can get a better deal than the Average Joe by shopping around,” says CarInsuranceQuotes.com spokesperson John Egan.
